Day 1: Friday 6th of November 2015

NB: please excuse the vagueness of the people and projects mentioned here, I need media office permission to mentioned what organisation I am with. It is just easier to omit it entirely

Day 1
Friday 6th of November 2015

Leaving at midnight, meant a fairly boring flight as mostly it involved sleeping, managed to get a few hours, lost track of how many exactly. First flight arrived ahead of schedule.

Spent five or so hours in Bangkok airport, helped along by the discovery that the duty free shop has free wifi. I used this to email my country manager to double check that I should withdraw AU$3k worth of Thai baht, as the lady at the counter seemed reluctant (I think this was because she thought I was a short term tourist when I asked if US or Baht was preferable)

Immigration forms on the Bangkok-Vientiane flight asked for ‘race’. Wasn't sure what to make of that so the Frenchmen next to me put European and I put Caucasian, neither was questioned. I assume it's a reference to the ethnic groups in Lao.

This flight arrived late, which didn't bother me, but confused the person picking me up.
By time I arrived I had enough time to drop my things into my hotel, have a quick shower and then head out to dinner with some other NGO and gov workers (although ⅔ couldn't make it last min so it was actually just one other person). Cringed at a tourist petting a stray dog over dinner.

Hotel has good wifi, handy for letting everyone know I arrived.

Luxury, just don't look at the shower.
