Day 161
Thursday 14th of April 2016
After making some VOIP calls back home I went for a walk this morning to see what was happening. Seems that most partying happens in the mid afternoon onwards, although the sprinklers over the road were already/still set up. Bumped into two tourists from yesterday with the owners of a cafe with disgruntled staff who had to work on this major holiday becase the owner was down for the holiday. After they headed off (and thankfully to, they started getting handsy with the girls, a recurring trend when beer is involved) we spent the afternoon throwing water on cars and passengers.
After grabbing earplugs we went to the water dance party where I stood motionless becase there was no room, as I got colder due to being wet I got ready to pull the head off the next person who poured iced water on me. Eventually we left for dinner, with me shivering in 35 degree weather.
While at dinner I got a phone call from a Lao friend asking where we were. She met us at the restaurant in tears, turns out she had been beaten up by jealous close friend. We took her back to my place so she could vent. after crying it out she decided she wanted to have her head checked out at the hospital, the stray dog walking out of the doors was a bad sign. After asking how long the wait would be (and just walking in and talking to the doctor directly) she decided that it wasn't worth the wait with the various casualties around, many I presume were motobike and beer fueled. She ended up talking directly to a nurse who gave her an injection and we headed on (I asked what the injection was, she didn't know). Got a bite to eat before watching youtube until she fell asleep, leaving me wondering what the etiquette in this situation is. However, she woke up shortly afterwards solving my dilemma and decided to go home.
This is not in the volunteer handbook.
