Day 178:Sunday 1st of May 2016

Day 178
Sunday 1st of May 2016

Met up with the translator today, possibly for the last time depending on what dates a job takes him away from Pakse. He was a bit stressed out as some questions from an interview he had were misinterpreted as governmental prying. We went to have lunch and ended up having a 15min walk first as the place we intended to go to only opens at 3.

Headed to the big market to see if they had white tea, but most of the stalls had closed by that time. I did find one stall, they they only sold black tea. Probably better to get packaged and labeled tea anyway for quarantine. Picked up washing before heading home to tinker on the computer. Got a call from otlg and we decided to see the festival that was on.

Turns out the festival was a Thai cultural fair. It was off to see market stalls selling common consumer goods rather than craft as back home, but there are plenty of brands wanting to make sure they are the default for the emerging lao economy. Watched a few songs played loud (possibly quieter than yesterday's office party though) but was happy to discover I still had earplugs in my pocket.

Headed to otlg's house afterwards due to a miscommunication, waited to go to dinner, which never happened before going home and getting a late dinner.

I really need to start packing.

Just notice the tree is in bloom outside.
