Day 199
Sunday 22th of May 2016
Started today with a bus trip to the Chu Chi tunnels, although it was a slow start as the bus meandered around the city until every available seat in the mini bus was filled as is the style here.
Unexpectedly stopped off at a craft workshop which hires victims of agent orange. However it was all crafts we had been seeing since we arrived in Vietnam so it didn't overly excite us.
The tour of the tunnels was good, although there were too many people for one group. It would usually be broken into 2 but they were short staffed.
Headed back to the city on the bus where we were dropped off at an arbitrary location. After getting directions from the guide before he ran off we managed to walk back to the hotel where we decided to settle the bill do we knew how much Vietnamese Dong we had left.
Went to a supposed American surplus market, although it was more of Mitchell's store.
Headed back to the main market for underwear but decided that the best price was about what I could pay in Melbourne.
Ended up sitting in the park with the intention of helping people practice English as we had read about. What we didn't expect was to be approached within 1 minute and attract an audience of 10 or so people.
This audience was not unnoticed by the police who twice came and broke the "meeting" up in case we were counter revolutionaries. Regardless we spent the next few hours chatting with numerous people about everything.
Got fast food for dinner at a Vietnamese restaurant that was a blend of KFC and MacDonalds with rice dishes thrown in.
Got some water before heading back to the hotel for one last pack.
