Day 200: Monday 23th of May 2016

Day 200
Monday 23th of May 2016

Off early to a waiting taxi to the airport. Arriving at the airport Sheridan checked in, however my check in wouldn't open for another two hours. We then headed to the airport cafe where we carefully planned our meal to use up the rest of our Vietnamese dong to within 2000 dong. Sent Sheridan through security until my checked in opened (and shifted gates unexpectedly).

Got my flight to Vientiane via Pakse, having to pass through both security and immigration in Pakse including getting a 30 day tourist visa. In the end my passport was handled by non less than 7 people and ended up in the same seat.

Arrived in Vientiane after a short flight where I ended up meeting and having dinner with a group of new volunteers and joining them for dinner, as well as sorting out some outstanding reimbursements. Left dinner early to get ready to leave, as well as a quick stop in the local shop to use up the rest of my Lao Kip (got some headphones and chocolate). Waited around to find no one had actually book a taxi however my program manager was on his way in from the airport, so we swapped taxis and I was on my way somewhat frantically, although ultimately I got there with plenty of time.

Next stop was Bangkok airport which was largely uneventful bar a long walk from one side to the other. After boarding I was on my way home. After a movie I went to sleep, managing to get a reasonable sleep (with a slightly stiff neck) before arriving in Melbourne the next morning about 9am Lao time, 12 local.

And thus, as with all things, my placement in Laos officially came to an end.

Bug Falang signing off.

A final farewell to Laos.

And a farewell to Vietnam.
