Headed out to see what was opened today with the holiday to grab breakfast. Ended up having mango shakes at an indian restaurants.
Decided to head to Wat Phu today down in champasak, which is the name of both the town and the provance it is in, so that's always confusing. After about an hours travel we arrived (and briefly stopped for directions on the final turn before we would have seen it anyway). After ice cream and drinks we got ushered onto a small tourist cart without knowing why which took us to the base of the Wat Phu complex. The first two buildings was all I really expected but turns out the complex had structures back into the mountain which we got to see after maaaaaaany steps in the sun (see below photos). The views from the top were worth it though as were carvings. Also there was some clouds that came over so the whole atmosphere was pleasant.
Headed down to check out the museum, before grabbing some banana fritters and heading off.
Purely by coincidence we arrived at the giant golden buddha that faces pakse just before sunset. so we climbed maaaaaaany steps to see the sun set over the mountains.
Then headed home before heading out for a hotpot bbq dinner. Dinner and drinks cooked over coals at the table for $5 a head.
