Day 59:
Sunday 3rd of January 2016
Today we headed up to the nearby Mekong river Island Don kho, a roughly 1km by 1km rice farm Island. Upon arrival we entered the tourist information centre where no one spoke English or immediately knew what we wanted. After some impressive miming of weaving actions we were ushered to a small boat. Hope it's affordable on the way back.
A short ride over and we found ourselves in a small village more at home in Fiji than Laos PDR. We asked about Sheridan undertaking weaving lessons, where we were asked to wait while a guide came over. After speaking for several minutes with the man who arrived, he bid us an enjoyable time on the island and went to leave, so we asked about undertaking weaving lessons. This time he took us over to a open walled building where they give Sheridan the reigns for about $9.
Eventually our time was up (we asked the boat to come back at 3pm) so we headed back across the river and back to Pakse.
Once in Pakse we had afternoon tea (and uploaded photos using the wifi) rested at home before heading out to dinner. Tried the local pizza joint. It was essentially a ball of greasy cheese. I'm not sure where the good things I heard about it were coming from.
Check back Monday for photos.
